Janine Tugonon could have won that title. Well, almost. Her answer sounds really one deserving of a beauty queen, but there’s this feeling in me that I should think otherwise.

We live in a time where people prefer simpler and realistic answers. The judges might have interpreted her answer as too stiff, sounding too much practiced, if not a plastic answer. This might gave Ms. USA some advantage. For while her answer sounds a bit lame, it feels more reflective of herself. It sounded more conversational and personal.

I might have answered the same question this way:

It would be tempting to think of one language to use as a beauty queen, and I see it to be practical. But there’s also this joy of learning more languages as you go along - it cements the purpose of your reign as an ambassador for cultural understanding. It also gives people the feeling that you’re doing more than expected in order to connect to their hearts.

Heck, why am I bothering? A guy like me should be talking more about the swimsuits, or even the long gown and Ms. USA’s promising future, if you know what I mean.
